On level 16 the title at the top of the page is a clue to deciphering it. Beyond that I would try to decipher the possible six letter words first. It was kind of time consuming but thats how I did it. You need a hint for level 18 Trolly? I finished the game yesterday.

Okay, maybe I've lost it, but the only ideas I get from the title are to use 13 and/or 15 as the cipher for the code *sigh* I have a feeling that this is completely stupid and I am way off base. Am I overthinking it?

Are you sure about that?

And try Mr. Logic's hint: As paradoxical as it may seem, one bit can sometimes provide more information than can many bits!
When you get to Level 06-07, try using the Windows Paint program to save the image as a Monochrome Bitmap and see what happens.

Adjust your monitors brightness or look at the source code. You might see what your missing.

There is a background on that level, but it is not easy to see though. Look harder. There is more than one way to find it.

I see it dimly, but when I save or copy/paste it into paint, it's just a grey square. I've also tried manipulating that square once in paint, but it doesn't reveal anything.

the background is definitely a mask. have you tried using the fill all tool in paint to see if it reveals the boxes clearer?

You have to flip the mask around a bit and just try a few places until you find a word. Once you figure out the shift, just try it on the longest word (the 6-letter column) until you find a word. It takes a while, believe me!

yes. the two images (back and ground) will form your mask to apply to the letters. then "atbash" is your clue to decipher.

By the way guys, there's a much easier and faster way to get a background image than just randomly clicking for ages. All you have to do is:

1) Look at the source code to find out the name of the image, for example mask.bmp.

2) Add the name to the end of the address for that level, for example www.simplecodeworks.com/covert/01-armstrong/mask.bmp

And hey presto, it is yours.

Actually I found the answer to 16.

Go into the source inorder to find the other background image. You need to combine the two background images into one image than mask it over the atbash one. After that, you need to use atbash in order to decrypt the code.

No, that wouldn't be necessary for this mask. This is how I did it, I put them into paint, then combined them into one. Then I pasted them into Microsoft Word. After that I pasted the image with words on it into word and changed the contrast of it all the way up to reveal more words. I pasted the words then into paint. Then the combined masks into paint and placed them over the words. If you can't see the words where the white boxes are, then you have to hit the lower box for the outline thing. Someone showed it in another post, I don't remember which post it was, though.

Here's an easy way to get the images. In the url, place the name of the image at the end of it. You will then go to a white screen with the image on it. That's how I found all the images.

Go to google and search for "Atbash" look for a good cypher. If you can't don't understand atbash, then it's basically a=z b=y c=x etc, etc. (The letters of the alphabet equals the opposite of them.)

yes. There is one called back and another called ground.

Windows sound recorder might help. Cancel out the white noise with an equal sound, make two into one.
