You re speaking about this Austrian gril, don't you ? Didn't know that such news spread much further than Austria, Germany or the other surrounding Countries. o__O . If you speak about her, she never said anything about not wanting to see her parents. And the man committed suicide.

Yes, she has been locked for 8 years, in a small room...
I heard she is trying to protect the man. I really don't understand why... :?

Well, if you really speak about that Austrian girl, it's like that:

She didn't want to tell anything but wrote a letter that was read to the public. She said her life is getting better, she has made friends and the events of the past just made her stronger. She feel sorry for the man because "he was a part of her life, even if it was one of the worst". He didn't manage to break her will, and both of them knew that she was the stronger one - even if she got beaten very often. Well, that's more or less that what she wrote in the letter.

i heard it on the news, poor girl! but what i don't understand is that she doesn't want to see her parents yet! that was the first thing i would want to do.. but we don't know the situation so maybe there's something going on between her and her parents..

i think its called stockholm syndrome. its where if someone is being held hostage, they can bond with their captor, and make very good friends with them. i think thats why she doesnt want to see her parents.

This is one of the reasons I think (well, not really making good friends as the hostage is still suffering but somehow bond to the captor). But also imagine that she has not seen her parents since she was 10 and now she is 18. There is an important part of her life with her family missing, maybe she has even problems recognizing them or remembering them. And we don't know what this man maybe told her about her parents when she was still a child.
I guess we can not judge such situations as we haven't lived anything like this (fortunately!). And we also don't know what is true of what we hear in the news.
