You can't click on more than one star at a time. As soon as you have the star you have to hit "x" to open the prism and place that color where you think it belongs. be careful,the creatures start to speed up when you start adding colors to the prism. It took me a couple of tries to get the timing down.

How do you get a star? I put my wand over it but it won't come up as taken!
